What is RentalScan?

RentalScan is a free AI-powered service that analyses rental car contracts on-site while you are still at the pickup counter. In under three minutes, you receive a structured report by email that clearly highlights every discrepancy between what you booked and what you are being asked to sign. Whether it is an unexpected insurance upgrade, a higher deposit than agreed, an unfavourable fuel clause, or hidden fees in the fine print - RentalScan finds it before you commit.

The problem we solve

Rental car contracts are deliberately complex. Presented at the counter after a long journey, often in a foreign language, under time pressure, most travellers simply sign whatever is placed in front of them. The consequences - unexpected charges, disputed damage claims, and inadequate insurance coverage - typically only become apparent days or weeks later. RentalScan exists to close this information gap and give every traveller the ability to understand exactly what they are signing.

How RentalScan works

Step 1 - Upload your voucher: Upload your original booking confirmation as a PDF. RentalScan supports vouchers from all major booking platforms including Check24, Booking.com, Rentalcars, and AutoEurope.

Step 2 - Photograph the contract: Take clear photos of every page of the rental contract. No scanner needed - a smartphone camera in good lighting is sufficient.

Step 3 - Receive your report: Within 1-3 minutes, a structured analysis arrives in your inbox with all discrepancies clearly flagged in plain language.

What RentalScan checks

Insurance and coverage: Is the CDW level consistent with your booking? Are there exclusions for tyres, glass, roof, or undercarriage? Has a Super Cover been added without your agreement?

Deposit and excess: Is the deposit amount consistent with your booking? Has the excess amount changed between your voucher and the on-site contract?

Fuel policy: Does the fuel clause match your booking - full-to-full, full-to-empty, or prepaid? Prepaid fuel arrangements almost always favour the rental company.

Additional charges: Airport surcharges, young driver fees, additional driver fees, GPS costs, child seat charges, and one-way drop-off fees are all cross-referenced against your original booking.

Technology and privacy

RentalScan uses GPT-4 by OpenAI to analyse your documents. Uploaded documents are deleted automatically immediately after analysis. Your email address is deleted within 30 days. No data is shared with third parties. All data is processed on servers within the European Union, hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany.
